We're all about opening people's eyes to the beauty and flamboyance of the South Asian Arts!

Oxford South Asian Arts Society is a Oxford University based society run by a committee of Oxford University and Oxford Brookes University students. Our aim is to provide those living within Oxford - students and other residents (who may not belong to either university) an opportunity to experience various elements of South Asian culture through art forms which make our part of the world so colourful and different. We want to provide those with an interest/ those who have trained in any of the arts a platform to share their knowledge and experience with the rest of Oxford and those with an interest, to learn and experience the art forms.

OxSAAS offers a variety of opportunities from concerts, workshops, weekly classes, socials, etc and many of these events are also completely free with no age restriction. We love to get people involved in our purpose and want everyone to enjoy the arts as much as everyone in our team does! We are very keen to particularly publicise the classical arts: featuring dance forms such as Bharatanatyam (from the South of India), Kathak (from the North of India/ Pakistan), Kuchipudi, Odissi and many others (including folk dances) as well as Hindustani Classical music and Carnatic Classical music! We also love our poetry (we like to encourage poetry readings from across South Asia) and also ofcourse Bollywood!

As we are still a relatively new society, every year we try to incorporate more exciting, new additions. We regularly post updates on our Facebook page with upcoming events, clips you may enjoy and various other events going on that are organised by other South Asian Societies within the University of Oxford and Brookes or events that may be interesting that are occuring nearby so check out our page and give us a like!
